Social Inclusion Internship
Working on migrant and refugee settlement in multicultural communities (MON2003/MON3001)
Semester 2, 2011
The Social Inclusion Internship offers students an opportunity to undertake a work-placement in an approved host-organisation in the migration, refugee and multiculturalism sector, with credit towards their degree. This 12-point unit Internship unit enables students to gain first-hand experience of the culture and challenges of the workplace and to engage with the practical dimensions of migrant and refugee settlement and multicultural communities. For their assessment, students are required to write a pre-internship appraisal, keep a journal, give a presentation on their placement experience and submit a 4000-word report.
Host-organisations include
- Centre for Culture, Ethnicity & Health
- Migrant Information Centre – North East
- Moreland City Council (Community Development Department)
- Multicultural Centre for Women's Health
- Refugee Council of Australia (Melbourne)
The Internship is restricted to students who have completed a prerequisite unit. Host-organisations may prefer those in the third year of study for their degree. Places are strictly limited and selection will be based primarily on academic merit.
Applications for the Semester 2, 2011 Social Inclusion Internship are now closed.
