Excavations in the South Tomb Group

The South Tombs are located immediately to the southwest of the settlement, beyond the remains of an ancient canal that once provided irrigation for fields around this part of the site. Many of the mausolea within this group are poorly preserved and the exact number of them is uncertain. A group of five tombs on the west is comparatively well-preserved.

Excavation Units

  • South Tomb 4
  • One of the better-preserved and most elaborate of the tombs in this area. The only monumental tomb to have been excavated in this group.
