How do I log in?

If a computer has the Novell client software installed (as all of the computers in Arts staff offices do) and it is connected to the network, then when you start up the computer you will be presented with the following screen -

If the Location box has ArtsIT in it, click the dropdown arrow and select ArtsStaff instead.

Enter you username (also referred to as a login name, login, userid or uid) then type your password in the password box and either click OK or just hit the Enter key. Novell doesn't care whether upper or lower case is used - as far as Novell is concerned they are the same. (That's NOT the case for your authcate, email and modem account passwords nor for the SNG computer - for those case IS important. For them JSMITH , jsmith and JSmith are all different but for Novell they are all equivalent).

If you get a message saying something like "User not known in the current context" then you need to change a few minor things under the button as discussed in the next section.

You will know that you have successfully logged in when you briefly see a window similar to the following -

The fourth line says "You are attached to server ITS-FNDS-A02" (or something similar). Once you see that line, you will know you have successfully logged in to Novell.
