Network Printing - Win2000/Xp

Here's how to set up your computer to use a networked printer with Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

First choose START/SETTINGS/Printers (as shown below).

Start
Setting Printers

Next choose (doubleclick) "Add Printer" then click on "Next" in the following box.

Choose the radio button for "Network printer" as shown, then click on "Next"-

Choose network printer

The following box will then appear. Don't try to type in a name, just click on "Next" to browse for the printer -

Browse for a printer

You'll then see something like this -

Doubleclick on "NDPS Printers" to open that.
Next doubleclick "NDPS Controlled Access Printers"
and click on STAFF-AU.
You'll now be looking at something like this -

Browse to STAFF-AU

Open STAFF-AU, then Monash, then Arts, then go down a bit and open up Printers.
Here's where we are now -

Printer list

It is now just a matter of finding the printer you want to use and doubleclicking it to choose it. The printer will now install the correct driver automatically from the network. You now just need to say whether you want this to be your default printer or not.

Set as default printer?

Make your choice then click Next then Finish and you're done. That's it - you've now successfully set up the printer for your Windows 2000 or XP computer.

Along the way you may get the following box -

If you do, just agree to everything and continue the installation.

The computer may also say that the printer driver is already installed and ask if you want to keep the existing driver or replace it. If it does, you can just say "replace".
