Intensive Bioethics Course

The Centre's annual Intensive Bioethics Course is in its 25th year in 2009 and this year, will be held near Alexandra, not far north of Victoria's Yarra Valley. Several hundred Australian and international health professionals have taken part in our course. Many Research Ethics Committees delegate some of their members to this sought-after event, and members of clinical ethics committees, as well as health professionals from many fields have also attended.

The course outlines general ethical frameworks, along with specific ethical principles underpinned by those frameworks, in the context of current developments in biotechnology, clinical practice, and the ethical oversight of research on humans.

Dates:

Sunday, November 29 to Friday, December 4, 2009.
Location: Stonelea Country Estate, Alexandra, Victoria. (Our usual venue, the Mt.Buffalo Chalet is closed temporarily, and our much-loved 2008 venue in Marysville, was destroyed by fire in Feb. 2009.)

This course fee includes 5 days' accommodation, all meals, tuition.

The cost of the course will include tuition, accommodation, and all meals. Transport between Melbourne and Alexandra via coach will be arranged for those who require it.

Participants who complete the Intensive Bioethics Course may be able to receive credit for one of the two units involved in the Graduate Certificate in Research Ethics taught at Monash University, if they also complete a further short piece of written assessment to the required standard. Participants in the 2009 IBC may also be interested in attending the first national conference of the Children's Bioethics Centre at the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne on "Paediatric Ethics in Practice". This conference will be held on the evening of Monday the 23rd of November and on Tuesday the 24th of November.
