Research in CCLCS
The Centre for CLCS was set up in 1974 (as the Centre for General and Comparative Literature) by a group of people in the Faculty of Arts interested in pursuing interdisciplinary research in the humanities (at a time when this was less fashionable than it now is). Since then the Centre has been a focus for advanced research in comparative literature, critical theory and cultural theory. It now has an international reputation in these areas.
Some of the research work done in the Centre over the last few years is outlined in the pages radiating from this one. A number of academics in the Faculty of Arts work extensively in the areas of interdisciplinary interest which the Centre has supported.
See the Academic Staff pages for accounts of the publications of key individual staff members.
See the Postgraduate pages for the courses available to graduate students.
CCLCS staff have recently participated in five major ARC-funded research projects:
- Imagining the Great Southern Land: Utopia, Dystopia and Science Fiction in Australia
- Demanding the Impossible: Utopianism in Philosophy, Literature and Science Fiction
- Reason in Revolt: The Role of Intellectuals in Australian Radicalism
- Between the Outback and the Sea: The Place of Cosmopolitanism in Contemporary Australia
- Political Myth and the Bible
The Centre runs a regular series of Research Seminars. The Centre has had numerous distinguished visitors.
See the Research Papers page for some recent papers by members of the Centre's staff, available in PDF and HTML format.
The Centre provides key members of staff to one of the Faculty of Arts's nominated areas of research strength, 'Critical Theory and Textual Studies'.
