About Communications and Media Studies

Communications and Media Studies explores the ways that individuals, groups and societies interact via verbal, textual, audio and visual communication. We attempt to make sense of the impact of changes in communication on the ways in which we live, work, interact and connect. Our students engage with communications and media theory as they relate to media histories, institutions, policy and ethics.

Our teaching program analyses the information age, and the radical changes it has wrought to the ways we live and work, communicate and connect, navigate our world and recreate within it. We investigate the impact of media technologies such as the iPod, the eBook, and Facebook upon everyday life.

Students are trained to critically engage with central theories and debates in an era where communications remains influential to our private, public and cultural spheres. They are equipped to lead, motivate, manage, inspire, initiative and inform others in a future where communications is increasingly influential.
