About the Centre for Population and Urban Research
The Centre for Population and Urban Research is an independent research organisation within the School of Political and Social Inquiry in the Arts Faculty of Monash University. Its funding derives mainly from external research grants and consultancies. It has prepared reports for a number of Commonwealth, State and Local Government agencies, professional bodies and corporations. Some of these are listed.
Consulting
The Centre has the research expertise to conduct consultancies across a variety of demographic, urban, labour market and related fields. It has specialised in relating population and household projections to labour market issues (particularly education and training needs), resource use issues (including projected demand for land and water), and housing and urban planning outcomes.
The Centre maintains a large customised database relevant to these issues, with particular reference to international movements to and from Australia, enrolments and completions in schools and universities in Australia and population movements within Australia.
Research
The Centre conducts its own research program. It addresses significant issues in the fields of population movements, urban planning, education and the labour market. This research is published in a variety of locations including in-house books, consulting reports and external books and journals.
The Centre publishes its own quarterly refereed journal, People and Place, which provides an outlet for the Centre"s work and other specialists wishing to publish material in these fields.
