CRI4020 Researching Criminal Justice

Semester 1

Researching Criminal Justice introduces students to contemporary trends in criminal justice research and to the major methodological approaches in criminal justice research. The subject examines various methodological approaches and their justifications in relation to a range of policy and theoretical initiatives in the field. Researching Criminal Justice equips students with the skills to undertake both qualitative and quantitative criminal justice research and to understand the political and socio-legal implications of conducting criminal justice research within and between criminal justice institutions and with vulnerable populations.

CRI4010 Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice

Semester 2

Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice engages students in key debates in contemporary criminal justice practice and theory. This unit provides students with an advanced understanding of the terms, concepts and debates necessary for analysing the current state of criminal justice across diverse jurisdictions. Issues to be examined include: criminal justice and diverse populations; trans-national criminal justice; security, violence and order; and new frameworks and directions in criminal justice.

CRI4000 Criminal Justice Honours Thesis

Semester 1 and 2

Students will be assigned a supervisor and will be required to attend weekly supervisory meetings. Students will be required to engage in a significant piece of reading and research and write a dissertation of 16,000-18,000 words on a topic of their own choosing, under the supervision of a member of academic staff.
