Intermission: Arts Honours
If you need to take a period of intermission from your course you must apply to the Faculty of Arts Honours Convenor.
A period of intermission from your honours program cannot exceed one semester. Intermission from the honours program is deemed to be special leave and will only be granted in exceptional circumstances.
All applications must be supported by the appropriate School Honours Coordinator prior to submission to the Faculty of Arts.
Standard undergraduate dates apply to taking intermission. Depending on when you submit your application certain academic and financial penalties may apply.

Additional Requirements for International Arts Students on a Student Visa
Intermission may only be granted to international students on a student visa in compassionate or compelling circumstances.

Prior to completing the application process detailed below, international students on a student visa must first discuss their application with Health, Wellbeing and Development. They will take you through the visa implications for taking intermission and stamp your application.

How to Apply
- Download Application for Change of Enrolment [PDF]
- Gain approval from the School honours co-ordinator: View list of Honours Coordinators.
- Submit application to the Faculty of Arts: View Contact Arts for office locations.
- You will be notified when your application has been approved by the Honours Convenor. Your enrolment will be updated by the Faculty of Arts.
Can You Take a Longer Period of Intermission?
Honours students are eligible to take intermission for a maximum of six months. If you need to take a longer break from your studies you should apply for course discontinuation. When you are ready to resume your studies you can re-apply to the Faculty of Arts.
