The following scholarships are administered by the Faculty and Schools.

Vice-Chancellor’s Undergraduate Research Scholarship – University Award

  • Scholarship: $6,500
  • Level: Fourth-year level, Honours students
  • Description: This scholarship is available to all Domestic and International Students who have demonstrated a high level of research potential. You do not need to lodge an application as applicants are nominated by their discipline/school and their faculty. Each faculty may nominate up to four students. The scholarship, valued at $6,500, is for one year only.

Arthur Brown Memorial Prize

  • Discipline: English
  • School: School of English, Communications, and Performance Studies
  • Level: Fourth-year level, honours students
  • Description: The prize will be awarded to the student who submits the best Fourth Year Honours thesis. The prize will be awarded on the recommendation of the Fourth Year Co-ordinator in consultation with the Prize Supervisor.

Camo Jackson Prize for Honours in Philosophy

  • Philosophy: Philosophy
  • School: School of Philosophy and Bioethics
  • Level: Fourth-year level, Honours students
  • Description: Awarded in each academic year for the top student in fourth year philosophy. Open to all students enrolled in fourth year philosophy. Judged at fourth year examiners' meeting in November.

CERES Prize for an Environmental Internship

Doug Muecke Prize for Fourth Year Honours Thesis in Comparative Literature

  • Discipline: Centre for Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies
  • School: School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics
  • Level: Fourth-year level, Honours students
  • Description: The Doug Muecke prize will be awarded to the student with the highest score for an Honours thesis in Comparative Literature. The prize will be awarded on the recommendation of all academic staff within the Centre for Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies.

Henry Handel Richardson Prize for Fourth Year (Honours) in English

  • Discipline: English
  • School: School of English, Communications, and Performance Studies
  • Level: Fourth-year level, Honours students
  • Description: The prize for the top student in Fourth Year will be awarded to the student who achieves the highest aggregate score in fourth-year ENH units taken over 12 months (full-time) or 24 months (part-time). This prize will be open only to English Honours students and not to Part One MA students. It will be possible for the same student to receive both this prize and the Arthur Brown Prize. The prize will be awarded on the recommendation of the Fourth Year Co-ordinator in consultation with the Prize Supervisor.

Howard Brown Prize for Contribution to Environmental Awareness

  • Discipline: Geography and Environmental Science
  • School: School of Geography and Environmental Science
  • Prize: $100.00
  • Level: Fourth and Firth-year level, Postgraduate students
  • Description: The prize is an annual award for the student (or team) judged to be worthy.

HUMCASSHonours Award

Ian Turner Memorial Prize

  • Discipline: History
  • School: School of Historical Studies
  • Prize: $350.00
  • Level: Fourth-year level, Honours students
  • Description: Prize for the best Honours dissertation in history. Awarded by a panel consisting of the Head of School and one other staff member with responsibility for fourth-year level units from a short-list of dissertations drawn up at the Fourth-year level examiners' meeting.

J.D. Legge Prize

  • Discipline: History
  • School: School of Historical Studies
  • Prize: $250.00
  • Level: Fourth-year level, Honours students
  • Description: Prize for the best Fourth-year level student in history, as decided by the Fouth-year level examiners' meeting.

Peter Bicknell Memorial Prize

  • Discipline: Archaeology and Ancient History
  • School: School of Historical Studies
  • Prize: $300.00
  • Level: Fourth-year level, Honours students
  • Description: Prize for the best Honours dissertation in Archaeology or Ancient History. All dissertations are considered for the Prize and are judged by two staff members.

Religion and Theology Unit Prize L4

  • Discipline: Religion and Theology
  • School: School of Historical Studies
  • Prize: $200.00
  • Level: Fourth-year level, Honours students
  • Description: Prize for the best essay in a Level Four Religion and Theology unit. Open to all Level 4 students enrolled in an RLT unit, on the nomination of their tutor. Essays are judged by two staff members.

Rosemary Cromby Prize

  • Discipline: Archaeology and Ancient History
  • School: School of Historical Studies
  • Prize: $250.00
  • Level: Fourth-year level, Honours students
  • Description: Prize for the best essay in a Level Four coursework unit. Open to all Level 4 students enrolled in an Honours degree, on the nomination of their tutor. Essays are judged by two staff members.

Ross Day Prize in Psychology

Ross Day Medal

  • Discipline: Psychology
  • School: School of Psychology, Psychiatry and Psychological Medicine
  • Prize: medal
  • Level: Fourth-year level, Honours students
  • Description: The medal shall be awarded to a student who exhibits exceptional achievement in the Psychology Honours program. It may be awarded annually, but only when there is a student worthy of the high distinction.

Rufus Davis Memorial Politics Prize

  • Discipline: Politics
  • School: School of Political and Social Inquiry
  • Prize: $500
  • Level: Fourth-year level, Honours students
  • Description: The prize is awarded anually to the student who achieves the highest mark for their Honours thesis (in percentage terms) in politics.

Winsome Callister Prize for Fourth Year Honours Thesis in Visual Culture

  • Discipline: Visual Culture
  • School: School of English, Communications, and Performance Studies
  • Level: Fourth-year level, Honours students
  • Description: It is awarded on intellectual merit to the candidate who achieves the highest percentage in the H1 grade. The Head of Section and the Honours Coordinator for the Section review the Honours theses grades at the end of each year.

Yoshida Foundation Prize

  • Discipline: Japanese
  • School: School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics
  • Prize: $1,000 (2005 figure)
  • Level: Fourth-year level Honours students
  • Description: Available to honours students for conducting field work in Japan.
