Deferral from an Arts Postgraduate Course
When you are offered a place in a course you may wish to delay the start of your studies, for work, family or travel reasons.
You can apply defer your place for six months or one year. At the end of your deferment period you can begin your studies without the need to reapply for your course.

Who can Apply?
You can apply to defer if:
- you have just received an offer, or
- you are in the first semester of your course and it is prior to the census date.

How to Apply
If you would like to accept your offer, but defer commencement of study for one or two semesters, you will need to apply. You will lose your place in your course if you do not officially notify us of your request to defer
Domestic Students
- Via the Web Enrolment System (WES)
- Create a Monash computer account (see Step 2??)
- Log into WES
- Click Apply for course deferment
- Check your details and eligibility for deferment and choose your Deferment return date
- Keep the confirmation of deferment email sent to your student account.
- Submit a hardcopy Deferment Application to the Faculty of Arts
- Download deferment application from Monash Student Services: Student Forms.
- Take form to the Faculty of Arts office on your home campus for assessment.
- View Contact Arts Student Services for office locations and contact details.
- Send an email from your Monash Student Account requesting a period of deferment.
- In your email, please include your student identification number and details of the semester you intend to return to study.

International Students
You must apply to International Recruitment Services (IRS). If your application is approved, a new offer and written agreement will be sent to you. Please contact International Recruitment Services (IRS):

When to Enrol and Notification from Monash Arts
We will notify you when you need to enrol. Our deferred students are treated as new students, so you can relax and enjoy your time away from studies. The only thing you need to do to is to ensure your postal address details are up to date. You can do this yourself on WES .

Return Early from Deferment
If you defer and then later decide you want to start earlier, please contact Arts Student Services on your home campus. Please note, students cannot add units after Friday the second week of semester.
