Take a Break from Study (Intermission)

If you want to take (or extend) an intermission in the upcoming year you must lodge a new Application for Intermission [PDF] form with the Faculty Office on your home campus.

Alternatively, for some courses you can apply for intermission via WES.

The Monash Intermissions pages provides general information for students wishing to apply for intermission.

International Students

Students studying at Monash on a student visa can only apply for an intermission if they have a medical condition or there is a serious illness in the family. For inquiries and assistance please contact international@arts.monash.edu.au.

Students studying at Monash who are not on a student visa can apply via the process for domestic students.

Re-enrolling After Intermission

If you are returning to study from an intermission you are required to re-enrol via the WES site at the same time as students who are studying in the current year.

For annual re-enrolment dates please visit Monash Key Dates for Re-enrolments.

Students who are returning from intermission in Semester 2 (i.e. halfway through the upcoming year), should still enrol in units for Semester 2 via WES.

What If I Want to Return Early from Intermission?

If you originally applied for a 12 month intermission, but after 6 months you would like to come back to study you need to submit an Early Return from Intermission Request Form [RTF] to your home campus.
