Arts Undergraduate Course Advice
Course Plan and Advice Steps
By completing the following steps you can be sure that you are on track to successfully complete your degree(s).
1. Complete a Course Map
Understanding the requirements and structure of your course will ensure that you are aware of all of the options you have within your degree and enable you to make informed unit selections.
Steps to take when mapping your course:
1. Read the Handbook entry from the year you commenced your course: http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/handbooks/
2. Read the Areas of Study for your chosen disciplines:
http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/2013handbooks/aos/index-byfaculty-arts.html
3. Print a Course Map. Use this to create a map of your course and to check that your structure and unit selection meets all the requirements outlined in the handbook: http://www.arts.monash.edu.au/current/undergraduate/courses/
2. Request a Course Progression Check
When to request a Course Progression Check:
If you are experiencing difficulty mapping your course and are unsure that you are meeting all your course requirements you can request a Course Progression Check.
A Course Progression Check allows you to have your course progression checked by a Faculty of Arts Adviser. It also gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you might have about your course and what you would like to study or achieve.
How to request a Course Progression Check:
You can request a Course Progression Check via the ‘Request a Course Progression Check’ box in the top right corner of this webpage.
In your request you will need to include:
· Your chosen Major(s)
· Your chosen Minor(s)
· Your first year arts sequence
· Any questions you have regarding your course and progression.
You will receive a response to your request via your Monash email account within 3 days.
3. Book a Course Advice Appointment
When to book a Course Advice Appointment:
After you have received a response to your progression check, we recommend you book a Course Advice appointment if:
· Booking an appointment was suggested to you in your course progression check response, and/or
· If you require further assistance and support with your course plan.
Course advice appointments run for approximately fifteen minutes. Please ensure you arrive a few minutes before your appointment time.
