Course requirements sometimes change as curriculum develops. Unless you have officially transferred into a new course structure you should complete under the course rules that you commenced with.
The requirements for majors, minors and courses are designed to ensure graduates aquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities in their chosen disciplines.
Sometimes due to your study interests or the availability of units in a particular year you may need to request that a core unit, or an additional elective be approved for inclusion in your major or minor. This is called a variation to study requirements.
