Thesis/Project Options

Students choose ONE of the following options for the thesis/project component:

Thesis (100%)

Over two semesters, students taking this option research and write a 15,000-18,000 word thesis on a selected topic with the guidance and support of a supervisor. No other creative project is required or attached to this outcome. This unit is designed to provide a sustained introduction to the processes and methodologies of scholarly research for students whose academic interests make the development of those skills essential. For further information see the handbook entry for DTS4500 Research Dissertation

Thesis/Project

This option consists of two parts, each taken under the guidance of a supervisor: the development and presentation of a creative project in one semester, and the writing of a 9,000 word thesis on a related topic in the second semester. This combination permits students with expertise in both practical and academic production to strengthen and display their knowledge. For further information see the handbook entry for DTS4600 Thesis/Investigative Project

Graduate Ensemble

This option enables students to engage in intensive practical work as part of a performance collective. Students joining the Graduate Ensemble produce several performance pieces under the guidance of industry professionals. Students taking this option have the opportunity to specialise in areas including design, production, dramaturgy, stage management, direction or performance. All students also submit a written assessment of their process and achievement over the year (3,000-word essay).

For further information see the handbook entry for DTS4800 Creative Project. Please note: entry to the Graduate Ensemble is by audition/interview/portfolio.
