Austral + Asia- Information for Delegates

Venues

The conference will be held at the Performing Arts Centre, (PAC) building 68, Monash University, Wellington Rd, Clayton. (Melways map ref. 70 G10)

Burchill Rooms are located at the ground level of PAC, same as the Drama Theatre. Rehearsal Room is adjacent to the Drama Theatre. The Dance Studio is located upstairs the Drama Theatre and can be accessed through the stairs near the toilet or the ticketing/box office of the building. We will provide signage and guides or you can ask assistance from the volunteers and working staff.

Information for Presenters

There will be 3 papers per session, with paper length of 20 minutes reading or discussion, followed by a 10 minutes question and answer portion. Workshop-Demonstration or performances must be in the range of 30-40 minutes, followed by a 10 minute discussion. Please bring your presentation on a standard USB stick or hard drives.

There is no need to send presentations in advance. Plan to load and test your presentation on the computer in your venue during the break before your session (see program downloadable in this website). You can also approach any volunteer and working staff for this matter. Fast internet is available on computers in all venues. However, be sure to have a static version of your presentation as back up.

Information for Session Moderators

Session Chairs or Moderators are responsible for keeping presenters within their allotted speaking time. Question time can either be after each individual presentation, or at the end of the session and it is the Chair’s responsibility to negotiate this with presenters.

Information for International Visitors

Melbourne has a very unpredictable weather. During the conference it will be Spring time in Melbourne, and November temperatures average 10-20 degrees Celsius. Travel information

How to get from Melbourne City to Monash University Clayton:

i. By train
From the City or Flinderst Street Station travel by train on the Dandenong, Pakenham or Cranbourne line. Get off at Huntingdale station and catch a bus. Buses leave for Clayton campus every 15-20 minutes. The 601 service express shuttle leaves for Clayton campus every four minutes.
ii. By bus
These buses travel direct to the Clayton campus bus loop:

iii. By car

Travel about 30 minutes from the city centre along Citylink and the Monash Freeway. If travelling from Melbourne's north or south, travel along Eastlink and exit west at the Monash Freeway. CityLink  and EastLink  are both tollways. Please check their websites if you need information about how to pay the toll.

The university taxi bay is in front of the Monash Australian Indigenous Studies Centre and the Alexander Theatre. 
TAKE NOTE: In Victoria, the public transport facilities (train, trams, and busses) are slowly shifting its daily met (paper) tickets to a plastic or stored value card known as myki. myki is the smart card ticketing system that is replacing Metcard in metropolitan and paper tickets on buses in selected regional towns. In future, myki will be valid for travel on V/Line trains between major regional towns and Melbourne. myki is a durable and re-usable smart card that stores value to pay your public transport fare (from the Myki Website).

Parking

You need a parking permit  during the weekdays, but we also offer short-term parking zones. You can park without a permit in the blue, red and yellow zones after 5pm on weekdays and all weekend.
