In recognition of the substantial research contribution made by postgraduates in the School of English, Communications and Performance Studies, a new research achievement prize has been established. The prize will be awarded annually to the most outstanding research achievement by a ECPS postgraduate student in the preceding year. The prize will be judged by a small panel chaired by the School’s Graduate Coordinator. The panel will consider and rank submissions on the basis of originality, scholarship and contribution to knowledge.
What types of research achievements are eligible?
Any research text that has been included in the School’s research output profile in the previous calendar year is eligible for the prize. The research text may include a sole authored monograph, a published article, a performance, multi-media or digital media work. The research text must be available to be submitted to the panel chaired by the Graduate Coordinator.
Who is eligible?
Anyone currently or previously enrolled in a higher degree (coursework or HDR) in the School of English, Communications and Performance Studies. This includes candidates who have already submitted and/or been awarded their degrees where the research text is based on thesis research.
What is the prize?
The author of the prize-winning publication will receive a certificate and a cheque to the value of $500.00.
How do I apply?
Download the application here, in Adobe PDF or Microsoft Word format.
Or obtain a copy from the School Office (room W707, Menzies Building). Submissions must include a hardcopy of the published work or, in the case of performance pieces, both the written performance text and visual performance record. The deadline for applications is 29 June.
NB: Applications must include a short summary (no more than 250 words) addressing the selection criteria and demonstrating the significance of the achievement (e.g. article published in a leading journal in field).
When will the award be announced?
The award will be announced in late July. The School reserves the right to withhold an award in a particular year if submissions are not of a sufficiently high calibre or to share the prize between two submissions of equal merit.
