Higher degree research students have access to a range of funding support options at both University and Faculty level.
- MRGS Postgraduate Travel Grants includes both the Postgraduate Research Travel Grant and the Monash Access Equity Travel Grant
- Monash/King's College London Research Travel Grants
- MRGS Statistical Support Postgraduate research students are eligible for up to 10 hours of free statistical assistance over the course of their candidature
- MRGS Postgraduate Publications Award (PPA) provides a living allowance for up to 12 weeks for research students whose theses are under examination and wish to use that time to write articles or books based upon their theses
- Faculty of Arts Postgraduate Travel 'Top Up' Grants
- Faculty of Arts Postgraduate Assistantships in Teaching and Curriculum Development and Teaching-Led Research Projects
- Faculty of Arts Postgraduate Publication Award
ECPS Graduate Research Support
The School of English, Communications and Performance Studies maintains an HDR Support Fund to provide financial assistance with small expenses entailed in research activities, such as conference attendance, travel for research purposes, and publications.
ECPS HDR students can apply for funding from the School throughout the period of their candidature: PhDs can access a maximum of $3500; MAs can access a pro-rata amount. You can choose to request a lump sum for the maximum once during your candidature or make separate requests for smaller amounts over the period of your candidature. Funding is normally provided as a reimbursement. If you applying for funding to supplement one of the University and/or Faculty schemes you should always apply for the University or Faculty-funded grant first.
What types of research expenses are covered?
Funding support can be requested to cover
- Conference Registration – domestic or international
- Travel Expenses – domestic or international
- Incidentals (meals, accommodation, taxi, photocopying, library access, etc.)
- Thesis Related Costs (Binding)
- Book and illustration purchase
- Field trips
- Other expenses

Submissions must include full documentation (conference details, travel tickets, booking confirmation, receipts, etc.) as well as an explanation as to how the requested funding relates to your research.
