Deans' Teaching Awards
The Dean's Teaching Awards are presented to the faculty's most committed, successful and passionate teachers, and are presented at a ceremony held in June each year. These awards are used as a basis for developing applications for the Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Teaching Excellence, ensuring the Faculty receives recognition for the wonderful teaching done by staff.
Nomination
The Heads and Undergraduate Coordinators of Schools are asked to nominate one or two teachers for the award in March each year. Their nominations can be based on their own knowledge of the staff member, and other criteria, such as unit evaluation results.
Selection
The Dean and Associate Dean (Education) select the nominees to be awarded the Dean's Teaching Award. Unsuccessful nominees are highly commended and the Faculty encourages Schools to nominate them again the following year. The criteria are:
- High unit evaluation scores;
- Curriculum development and innovation;
- Innovation in delivery and practice;
- Sustained teaching excellence;
- Leadership in student support;
- Leadership in teaching and/or teaching research
Reward
The Dean's Teaching Awards carry a reward of $1,000, to be paid into a research fund, and a certificate.
