Mr Roby Marlina

Assistant Lecturer

Biography

Roby Marlina was born in Medan, Indonesia and came to Melbourne as an international student to do VCE Year 11 and 12 at Taylors College. Due to his passionate interests in teaching and learning languages and understanding human behaviour, he chose to specialise in Behavioural Studies and English in Use (former name for English as an International Language) for his BA at Monash University. He also holds a Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary – ESL and Psychology) and a Master of Education (TESOL) from Monash University. His experience of being an international student in Australia together with his interests led him to write his Master’s thesis on international students’ participation in Australian university tutorials.

He has been lecturing and tutoring for English as an International Language since 2005. Recently, he has been asked to lecture in short courses run by the Faculty of Education, Monash University, for primary and secondary teachers of English from Hong Kong and Korea. He has also taught a BA (English language) course at Hanoi Open University in Vietnam.
