Workshops for VCE French students
The French Studies program offers a range of workshops designed for VCE students of French in Years 11 and 12 and also French IB.
We run a series of workshops throughout the year, exploring a range of required skills and issues.
The courses focus on all aspects of grammar, oral, listening and writing skills. In the second semester many courses address cultural or social issues selected by schools as a topic for the detailed study.
During the September break, oral preparation workshops are held and there are 2 special end of year exam preparation workshops in the week prior to the final French exam.
These courses are designed by colleagues who have experience teaching at VCE level in the secondary sector as well as at Monash.
Monash VCE Workshop Participants Achieve Outstanding Results
70 % of the students who attended the workshops in 2006 obtained 40 or above as their raw score (translated to a perfect score of 50).
30% of all students in Victoria who obtained a 40 and above raw score in French had attended the Monash French VCE Workshops.
Half of the students in Victoria who obtained a raw score of 50 in French had attended the Monash French VCE Workshops.
Congratulations to everyone!
Quality Assessment
In questionnaires given to students 100% stated that:
- They have learned something new
- The teaching was delivered in an innovative and effective way
- They felt more confident about their ability to gain a good raw score
- They would recommend the course to anyone wishing to improve their written, oral, grammar and comprehension skills
Background
The Monash French VCE workshops were created in 2001 following changes in the French VCE assessment system implemented in 2000.
The Monash French VCE Workshops, while not widely advertised, are attended by students coming from as far as Portland for the following reasons:
- The workshops cater for a very small group of students ( between 8 and 12)
- The trainer has 10 years experience training year 12 students and secondary teachers
- Innovative student-centred teaching techniques are applied
- Original material is given to students
- Students can have access to the trainer via email for an individual follow-up
