French Studies Enrolment Information 2009
First Year Entry Levels and Placement Tests
First year French Studies has FOUR ENTRY POINTS allowing any student, from the absolute beginner to the advanced speaker, to choose first year French Studies units. First-year students enrol in ONE of four possible first year sequences (a sequence = one unit in semester 1 and a follow-up unit in semester 2) according to their proficiency level.
Students should determine their enrolment procedure for French Studies as follows:
- Students who have completed VCE 3/4 or IB French or equivalent must seek French Studies Program approval for enrolment in appropriate units on enrolment day (see how below). These students will take the level 5 diagnostic test.
- Students who have completed VCE 1/2 or equivalent year 11 French must seek French Studies Program approval for enrolment in the appropriate units on enrolment day (see how below). These students will take the level 3 diagnostic test.
- Students who have previously studied French up to BUT NOT BEYOND year 10 may immediately enrol without approval in FRN1010 French Studies 1 (semester 1) and FRN1020 French Studies 2 (semester 2). These students will be contacted in February by the unit coordinator with further information.
- Students who have not previously studied French at all may immediately enrol without approval in FRN1010 French Studies 1 (semester 1) and FRN1020 French Studies 2 (semester 2). These students will be contacted in February by the unit coordinator with further information.
- Students who are native or near-native speakers or who have learned French in a family or community environment must seek French Studies Program approval for enrolment in appropriate units on enrolment day (see how below). These students will take the level 5 diagnostic test.
