Core Units, Language Levels and Sequences

The two categories of French studies units that are required for a major in French Studies are: core units (which form sequences of language levels) and option units.

Each language level represents a one-semester 6 point unit. The third digit of the unit's code indicates the language level. Language levels are normally studied consecutively but do not have to be taken in the same calendar year. However, with the exception of language level 1 (FRN1010/2010), the previous level, or its equivalent, is a prerequisite of the next level.
