Undergraduate Diplomas - entry requirements

The Faculty of Arts offers a number of Undergraduate Diplomas.

Diploma in Arts, Diploma in Languages and the Diploma in European Studies

Total credit points required: 48 + 3 years part-time

For the Diploma in Arts, Diploma in Languages and the Diploma in European Studies the entry requirements are the same.

Entry requirements

Monash Arts Students

Students enrolled in a Monash Arts bachelor's degree can apply after successful completion of one year of study.

Other Students

  • Students enrolled in a non-Arts bachelor's degree at Monash or another university;
  • Students enrolled in a double degree at Monash or another university;
  • Students enrolled in an Arts degree at another university.

Approval is required from your home faculty, faculties or university. normally you would commence the diploma at the same time you commence your main degree (first year). Applications will also be considered from students who decide at the beginning of their second or third year that they would like to study a language.

Diploma in Tertiary Studies

Course code: 2552 + Total credit points required: 48 + 1 year full-time On-campus + (Gippsland F/T only)

Entry to the Diploma of Tertiary Studies

The Diploma of Tertiary Studies has two entry points and offers improved pathways and increased credit into your chosen degree.

Diploma in Social and Community Welfare

Course code: 1826 + Total credit points required: 48 + 2 years full-time, 4 years part-time + On-campus and Off-campus (Gippsland)

Minimum entrance requirements include:

  • VCE - Satisfactory completion of all work requirements for eight units at level 3 and 4, including English (any), or
  • Other - Satisfactory completion of a Year 12 qualification deemed equivalent to the VCE, provided an accredited Year 12 English course has been satisfactorily completed

Special requirements

All applicants are required to complete a social and community welfare course administration form, available from the School of Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences.

Applicants will be short-listed on the basis of information contained in this form. Short-listed, on-campus applicants will be invited to attend a compulsory interview in early December and must also apply through VTAC .

Short-listed off-campus learning applicants may be required to do a telephone interview, depending on when they submit their application. Applicants are strongly advised that entry into the course is not solely on academic criteria. Other factors such as work and life experience, personal qualities and maturity are also taken into account.
