Study part of your Arts undergraduate degree overseas
Explore a world of opportunity
‘Inscribing Italy’, July 2010. Students ventured through the Renaissance
and the ‘Grand Tour’ of the eighteenth century to the mass tourism
of today. They examined factual and fictional travel literature, and
engaged in guidebook studies, both in class and through field trips
in the local Tuscan region.
As a 'Faculty without borders' Monash Arts is committed to providing a wide variety of options for students to study overseas as part of their degree.
Studying overseas is the ideal opportunity to experience different cultures, make new friends and explore the world without postponing your studies. Everyone's experience of studying overseas is unique; however, there are a number of benefits that students share in common. These include greater independence and self-discipline, adaptability and intercultural understanding.
Whether you study the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Journalism or a Bachelor of Music for example, you can choose to study overseas as part of your degree. There are opportunities to study overseas in all Monash Arts undergraduate degrees. We also offer two internationally focussed degrees where you must study overseas as part of the course requirements- the Bachelor of Arts (Global) and the Bachelor of Arts (International). The Bachelor of Arts (Global) is also available as a double degree with either Commerce or Science.
Where can you go?
The short answer is you can go almost anywhere in the world. More specifically, we have overseas campuses in South Africa and Malaysia and a teaching centre in Prato, Italy. Monash Arts also has partnerships with over 120 international universities and each year students travel to places such as Austria, Botswana, Chile, Denmark, France, Hungary, Israel, California, Latvia, the Middle East, the UK and the USA.
Types of Programs

‘Archaeological fieldwork in Tuscany’, July 2010. This image shows
students working on the excavation of Pietramarina, an Etruscan
walled settlement dated from around the 7th century BCE to the
early imperial Roman period. The process of unearthing the square
in front of the walls will continue next year with a new group of
students.
Our programs fall into two broad categories based on the amount of time spent overseas.
Short-term
These vary in length but generally run from between 2 and 8 weeks. Our programs include:
- Intensive study at Prato
- In-country language programs
- International Study Tours
Long-term
These programs include Study Abroad and Exchange where you can study overseas for 1 or 2 semesters.
When can you go?
Overseas studies begin in second year, giving you the opportunity to investigate your options and preferred destinations. There are different study opportunities available throughout the year. A range of short term programs are offered during summer and winter semester. Longer term programs, such as study abroad and exchange, have overseas options available year round. Keep in mind; to be eligible to study overseas you must have completed at least a full year of your degree (48 points) and have a 60% average.
