Monash Arts Graduate: Alex Simanjutak

Alex Simanjutak, Communication student

Profile

Name | Alex Simanjutak

Course | Bachelor of Communication

After completing his Bachelor of Communication and gaining some work experience in Melbourne, Alex Simanjutak was appointed editor in chief of Indonesia's leading travel, entertainment and lifestyle magazine, Jakarta Java Kini.

In this role, he is in charge of a team of 50 writers, designers and photographers, many of them older and with many more years experience than him. Alex attributes his career success to his Monash degree. "I think one of the main reasons I got this job is because of Monash. Obviously the publisher knew Monash and studying at Monash really opened a lot of doors for me," he says.

In 2009 Alex was awarded the Outstanding Young Australian Alumni Award in the second annual Australian Alumni Awards. When asked if he would consider hiring other Monash graduates in the future, his response was clear, "Yes. Definitely yes, because I know they are from a good university."
