Monash Students Successful in German Scholarship Applications
The German Studies Program is delighted to announce the successful completion of the 2009 DAAD scholarship round. The German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst - DAAD) has announced that Monash German Studies students have been awarded a total of fourteen scholarships in the two categories open to undergraduate students.
Eight of our students will receive a Winterkursstipendium and spend between four to six weeks at a German University to enrol in an intensive German culture and language course in January and February 2009. The students are:
- Katherine Allman
- Meaghan Bruce
- Lauren Clay
- Linden Lyons
- Edward Moore
- Francesca Neal
- Tess Rowley
- Simone Weckmann
In addition, six of the more substantive, highly competitive and very prestigious 'Semesterstipendium' (semester scholarships) will go to six of our students:
- Imogen Jackson
- Michelle Kurrle
- Daniella Phair,
- Lauren Swagerman
- Michelle Stewart
- Andrew Teese
DAAD scholarships include a range of benefits, such as travel and accommodation subsidies, full health cover and a special allowance for incidentals (e.g. local travel, books).
We are extremely proud of our students who have shown great academic commitment and a degree of maturity well beyond their years in putting together such professional applications. The full-semester candidates will study at a German university of their choice and continue to evolve as young scholars by engaging in an exciting range of topics in German linguistics, literature, socio-historical and cultural studies. The experience will contribute to their Honours projects which cover an exciting and diverse range of topics.
