Abstract:
Eugen von Guérard (1811-1901), one of Australia’s greatest landscape painters, was born and grew up in Vienna where his father, Bernard von Guérard, was employed in the court of Franz 1 as a painter of miniature portraits.  Following some years of travel in Italy with his father the young von Guérard enrolled at the famous Düsseldorf Academy and for twelve years immersed himself in the life and culture of this dynamic art city on the Rhine.  The critical role of his experiences in Vienna and Düsseldorf in shaping his philosophy of landscape painting and his response to the Australian landscape, and the continuing importance of his Viennese and German connections throughout his career, will be explored in this presentation.

The exhibition Eugene von Guérard: Nature Revealed is showing at the National Gallery of Victoria until 7 August 2011.

Poetik des ‚Ankommens‘ – Vorüberlegungen zur ersten Inszenierung eines Stücks von Elfriede Jelinek in Australien

Abstract:
Der Vortrag ist Teil eines theoretisch-praktischen Forschungsprojekts, das sich das Ziel setzt, theatrale Strategien für das Werk Elfriede Jelineks in Australien vorzuschlagen und beim Inszenieren eines ihrer Stücke anzuwenden. Er bietet erste Einblicke in eine Poetik, die sich auf die Auseinandersetzung mit der persönlichen Situation des ankommenden Theaterpraktikers an einem fremden Ort – dem ‚Ort der Ankunft‘– vor dem theoretischen Hintergrund des Jelinek’schen Werkes stützt. Dieser Prozess führt zu einer produktiven Neufassung des ‚Palimpsest‘-Begriffs, aus dessen Sicht das übersetzte und inszenierte Werk nicht länger als adaptiert sondern vielmehrals Teil eines Prozesses gegenseitiger Transformation aufgefasst wird.
