Getting Started On Post Graduate Study

General Information

Desks and Computers

The School endeavours to provide a shared desk for all full time research students. These are available in a number of rooms and you need to see Heather Fletcher to arrange the allocation of a desk.

Monash Research Graduate Centre

The University has provided a central facility for graduate research. It is located in Building 3E adjacent to the Monash Research Graduate School. This facility provides study carrels, access to computers, and (for later year students) a room, as well as common room facilities, seminars and other activities associated with graduate research activity.

Computing and e-mail

The School endeavours to provide all senior graduate students (those in the writing up stage) with access to a PC. There are also PCs available in Room S111 which can be used for data analysis and initial draft word processing. The computers are networked around the School. To use the computers you will need a logon code and e-mail address. See Dr. Shobhit Chandra (Room S209a).

Occupational Health and Safety Regulations

These cover the operation of laboratories and field work.  David Tooth and Ursula Pietrzak can provide details. Make sure you are aware of our policy on these matters and what is deemed safe behaviour in the field and in laboratories.

Research Ethics

Where research involves human subjects there is an established University policy to be followed, which involves a submission to the University research ethics committee. Further details are available from the Monash Research Office.

Travel Costs: Research and Conferences

The University encourages students to attend national and international conferences and present papers from their research. Students can receive support from MRGS, the Arts Faculty and the School for travel to conferences to present papers.
