CONGRATULATIONS
Akiko Yamane 1000th Phd in Arts
Akiko Yamane happened to be the 1000th PhD to have graduated from the Faculty of Arts since it started a doctoral program 40 years ago. The Arts Faculty wanted to celebrate this event by inviting Akiko to participate in the Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, 12th October. Akiko has just started teaching at Cal State Fresno, but has been granted permission by her head of school and Dean to fly down and attend the graduation ceremony.
This is an excellent opportunity for GES to celebrate the School's achievements over the past 40 years.
The Arts Faculty, has requested as many GES academics as possible to participate in the procession and has arranged for about 15 places to be reserved for our PG research students in the graduation audience, so that we can cheer madly when Akiko is presented her degree. The Arts Faculty is also hosting a reception after the graduation at which Akiko will have the chance to say a few words of thanks etc., and would like to invite the GES PG research students and staff to attend too.
Please note down Thursday 12th October, Graduation Ceremony starting at 4pm in your diaries and make sure you attend the event! All those to be in the audience please submit your name to Bianca as soon as possible so the necessary arrangements can be made. Academic staff are encouraged to don their robes and join the procession.
Cassandra Rowe will also be graduating at the October 12th Ceremony.
Andrew Coutts who has submitted his PhD thesis "The influence of housing density and urban design on the surface energy balance and local climates of Melbourne, Australia, and the impact of Melbourne 2030's vision".
