Getting Started Postgraduate Induction

What you need to know as a postgraduate student in your day to day life in the School of Geography and Environmental Science (SGES)

Getting Started

Your supervisor should be your first point of contact. They will guide you in the right direction.

Desk and Office Keys

The School endeavours to provide office space including a shared desk, ergonomic chair, filing cabinet and access to phone and fax for all research students. These are available in a number of rooms.

**Permission is needed for access to international/STD/mobile telephones calls for work purposes

Computer Facilities

The School has a number of terminals for accessing the university's mainframes. Graduate students in the writing up stage are provided with access to a PC. There are also PCs available within the GIS lab and in S111 for data analysis and initial draft word processing. See Shobhit Chandra for details.

Building Access

If necessary for research purposes postgraduate students may obtain out of hours access to the building and some facilities by requesting authorization from Heather Fletcher.

Mail

A mail basket for outgoing mail is located in the tearoom. Mail is taken down at 10.45am and 2.45pm every day. All incoming mail for HDR students is placed in the A-Z pigeon-holes in the tea room. Please make sure to check for mail regularly.
