Archaeology of the Gulf Province, Papua New Guinea

This project aims to explore the antiquity and dynamics of people-people and people-land-river-sea relations in the Kikori and Omati River mouth of the Gulf Province, Papua New Guinea. We focus especially on the historical developments of the western-most extension of the ethnographically documented Hiri (Motu) trade, whose western limits were during the early 20th century the Kikori River delta.
