(Post)colonial theory and the Other

Of interest here are colonial constructions of archaeological knowledge, in particular in the notion of 'preunderstanding': that is, how knowledge is always constructed in historical context while activated in the present, resulting in understandings of history that are always subject to societal preconceptions. I have focused in particular on the way that non-Indigenous commentators (academic and popular) have consciously and/or subliminally imposed prejudices on their narratives, in particular as these concern Australian Aboriginal peoples and their histories.
