WHAT PREVIOUS YEAR'S STUDENTS EXPERIENCED!
- Visited sugar plantations and mills and talked with small contract
farmers about the various technical and financial challenges they face
in attempting to produce sugar for local and foreign markets.
- Met with program officer responsible for relocating people displaced
by the building of dam.
- Discussed with local water authorities the difficulties involved
in managing local water resources to meet economic, health and social
goals.
- Talked with community health workers involved in AIDs education and
domestic violence programs.
- Visited eco-tourism projects being set by local communities in conjunction
with conservation authorities.
- Talked with teachers about the immense challenges they face in trying
to provide poor rural children with a basic education.
- Talked with officials from South Africa and Mozambique about their
plans for the Maputo Corridor Spatial Development Initiative.
- A weekend trip to Kruger National Park
