Research Strengths of the Monash European and EU Centre

Cristian Bresoveanu
Cristian’s PhD journey has been closely tied to his career as a diplomat. After working at the Embassy of Romania in Australia, he returned to Bucharest in 2003 but couldn’t resist the offer to take up a PhD in 2004. Cristian chose Monash because of its worldwide reputation for international research and his previous experience with the university.
The topic of Cristian’s PhD focuses on the development of the European Union, how it has evolved as an international actor, and the implications this has for the political culture and future direction of the international system. His personal interest in the topic stems from growing up in a region of the world where the international system enabled totalitarian regimes to stay in power for almost half a century.
Cristian is confident that a PhD will improve his career prospects making him eligible to apply for positions at an international level with organisations such as the European Union.
The Monash European and EU Centre is an interdisciplinary research centre with a focus on European and EU related studies. Supervision at a PhD and research Masters level is available. The Centre covers a wide range of research areas including European culture, society, history, politics and economics.
