Research Strengths of the Monash Asia Institute
The Monash Asia Institute (MAI) offers a PhD and Masters program with a focus on cross-disciplinary work addressing issues of regional and global significance. The Institute has a large number of graduate researchers working in the fields of medicine, engineering, religion, security and economic development. The MAI has a database of experts, rights to distribute specialist Asian videos and has published over 200 titles. Collaborative research projects bring together all the centres of the MAI with Monash and outside partners.
The Monash Asia Institute consists of six research centres:

- Centre for Malaysian Studies
- Centre for South-East Asian Studies
- Japanese Studies Centre
- National Centre for South Asian Studies
