Support programs unique to Arts
Two highly successful initiatives by Monash Arts include the Tricks of the Trade seminar series and the Graduate Researchers in Print (GRiP) program. Participants of the GRiP program have reported very positive outcomes. A recent survey revealed over 98% of participants drafted an article for eventual publication in a referred journal, 53 % submitted an article for publication, and 19% had a journal article accepted in a peer-reviewed journal.
Tricks of the Trade seminars
The Tricks of the Trade seminar series is designed for new higher degree research candidates and covers a variety of topics relevant to research. These include the mechanics of candidature, strategies for tackling research, accessing resources and ethical considerations.
Graduate Researchers in Print (GRiP)
The GRiP program helps candidates to work towards standards of excellence in scholarly publications. This innovative program offers critical feedback and support on various aspects of publishing, including identifying appropriate journals and responding to reviewers’ reports. GRiP participants have been very positive about the program, commenting that it creates a sense of belonging, as well as making a significant contribution to their level of professionalism.
Financing your study
All research students who are Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens or permanent residents are exempt from course fees and enrolled into a fee-free place. This means that enrolling for a Monash Arts research degree will not result in a student debt. There are also numerous scholarships available to research students to help them to pursue their studies on a full time basis. Learn more about finances and scholarships.
Entry requirements
Applicants are normally required to have completed at least a four-year honours degree of high standard from an Australian university, or a qualification or combination of qualifications considered to be equivalent. View Arts higher degree entry requirements.
Applying for candidature
Before applying, it's important you speak with the school, department or research centre in your area of interest, to ensure the best possible alignment with your expectations. However, once you have a clear idea of your research interests and the area you wish to study, there are three easy steps to applying for a research degree.
