Historical Studies Policy Section 2.1.1 - Protocols governing the History Portfolio

  1. The School History portfolio should consist of approximately 50 subjects, of which no more than 42 should ordinarily be taught in any one calendar year.
  2. The History portfolio of the School of Historical Studies should aim to strike a balance between scholarly specialisation, market demand, and the pedagogical requirements of the discipline.
  3. The School history portfolio should incude a broad range of subjects encompassing a diversity of disciplinary approaches and methodologies, learning and assessment strategies, periods and geographical areas.
  4. All new History staff members may propose initially one new subject provided that it fits within one of our designated curriculum streams.
  5. All staff members may at any time propose new subjects provided they fit within one of our designated curriculum streams and provided they replace existing subjects (which normally must be distestablished).
  6. Unless otherwise specified, any Second/Third Year subject in History which fails to attract 40 or more enrolments in any two consecutive teaching periods must be disestablished.
