Historical Studies Policy Section 6.2.1 - Methods to promote parity of assessment across subjects

Subject Coordinators should make every effort to ensure that the marking in their subjects, particularly if they are large subjects, and especially at First Year level, is as consistent as they can make it.

Just as individual subjects employing several sessional tutors should arrange subject examiners' meetings to look at a sample of essays before formal marking begins, Coordinators should think of inviting one or more representatives of other subjects at the same level to these meetings (as Medieval and Renaissance have done regularly over the last few years). Essay exchange acrosss subjects at the same level is another way of promoting parity of assessment.
