About the AEUIFAI

On 26 June 1996 in Florence, Italy, an Agreement of Cooperation was signed between the European University Institute and the Australian European University Institute Fellowships Association Incorporated . The goal of the Agreement is to provide the opportunity for Australian researchers, both established and early career, to avail themselves of the resources and intellectual environment of the EUI.

The European University Institute is a high profile research institute established by the Member States of the European Union in 1976 at San Domenico di Fiesole, Florence. The research developed there bears on and shapes the main policy issues which confront contemporary European society both internally and externally. The EUI hosts the European Forum and serves as the archive of all European documentation. It is a gateway to Europe. For its part, the EUI is desirous of establishing closer links with East Asia and the Pacific region.

The Australian European University Institute Fellowships Association Incorporated was established as a consortium of interested universities (Monash University, Griffith University, the University of New South Wales, the University of Melbourne, Deakin University, and the Australian National University, and the Delegation of the European Union) following an approach from the EUI to form a link with Australian universities. It is hoped that other universities, in time, will join the AEUIFAI. The Fellowships, however, are not limited to scholars from member universities.

Under the Agreement there are two categories of Fellowship tenable at the EUI for up to nine months.

1. Postdoctoral scholars and academic staff from Australian universities.

2. Postgraduates from any Australian university.
