Exam Papers Policy
Policy on the preparation of exam papers where a unit is taught at more than one campus
1. Unit Advisors (i.e. Chief Examiners) control exam papers (the setting and release of exam papers, and their confidentiality).
2. Unit Advisors should consult appropriately with colleagues at other campuses regarding exam questions before the paper is finalised. For example, with respect to Monash Malaysia (MUM), exam questions may be modified slightly to suit local contexts - such as by providing a choice of appropriate questions. This should be done in consultation between the Gippsland Unit Advisor and the unit lecturer/s at the other campus/es. The final paper should be prepared by the Gippsland Unit Advisor, as Chief Examiner.
3. If agreed by the Unit Advisor, a final copy of the exam may be provided to lecturers at other campuses prior to the exam, in order to assist them in teaching the unit. It must be held in strict confidence by those lecturers.
4. Exam papers must not be provided to sessional lecturers, including TMC lecturers/tutors, prior to the exam.
5. Sessional staff (including TMC staff) should be provided with any exam advice or exam memos compiled for students.
6. Where a sessional staff member is employed by HUMCASS as the Unit Advisor, the exam should be prepared in consultation with another full-time staff member who has been designated as the Chief Examiner, or with the Head of Section.
Agreed at HUMCASS School meeting 19/5/2005.
TMC Extensions Policy
In addition to the School policy on extensions and late penalties, the following procedures apply for students studying through TMC :
Extensions of up to 3 days
TMC tutors may grant individual student requests for extensions of up to 3 days. Extensions must be requested by the due date. Students should supply appropriate documentation. Evidence in writing of the tutor's approval of the request (e.g. an email, a signed extension slip) should be attached to the student's assignment with the supporting documentation.
Extensions of more than 3 days
TMC students requiring an extension of more than 3 days should email their Monash Unit Advisor. Students should print out the lecturer's email granting an extension and attach this to their assignment. Copies of appropriate supporting documentation should also be attached.
Block extensions (whole class extensions)
Any requests for a block extension for a whole class should be sent to the Monash Unit Advisor, by the TMC tutor or TMC administrator. Any requests for further individual extensions beyond a block extension must be made to the Monash Unit Advisor.
This policy will be reviewed in June 2006.
