Honours Scholarship Information 2008

The following scholarships are available to intending Honours students in the School of Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences, Monash University, Gippsland Campus for 2008:

  1. Vice-Chancellor's Scholarships
  2. Peter Kerr Scholarship
  3. HUMCASS Honours Scholarships
  4. GESF Honours Scholarships
  5. Faculty of Arts Scholarships

Vice-Chancellor's Scholarships

Value: $3,000 each [Note that this scholarship also carries considerable prestige, as it is highly competitive and awarded to the very best Honours students across the University.]

Eligibility: Australian citizens, permanent residents of Australia, international students. Requires a GPA in the chosen discipline of at least 80%.

Application process: See application form. Applicants are nominated by their discipline/school, then ranked by the Faculty. Up to four (4) applicants will be put forward by the Faculty then considered by a University committee. Applicants are assessed on the basis of their academic record and their research potential (a supporting statement is required from academic staff in the discipline).

Deadline for applications: Students are nominated by the School and are not required to submit applications.

Peter Kerr Scholarship

Value: $5,000 plus HECS exemption

Eligibility: Students who have completed three years of an undergraduate course at Monash University Gippsland Campus in the School of Humanities, Communcations and Social Sciences and wish to undertake an Honours year.

Application process: See application form. The selection criteria is outlined in the attached information. This includes aptitude for further study, all round interests in humanities, academic results and financial position. The scholarship recipient is decided by a panel representing the trustees of the Peter Kerr Foundation.

HUMCASS Honours Scholarships

Value: Two (2) scholarships of $4000 each.

Eligibility: Domestic and international full-fee paying students who are eligible to be accepted into the chool of Humanities, Communciations and Social Sciences's Honours program and who have completed a degree offered through the School.

Application process: See application form. The award will be based on academic merit: it will be awarded to the applicant with the highest GPA calculated on the basis of the Honours entry requirements. The Faculty Honours Sub-Committee will assess applications and make a recommendation to the Head of School. Application Form

Note: Students may apply for more than one scholarship, however, some scholarships may not be held concurrently. A HUMCASS or GESF scholarship may not be held concurrently.

HUMCASS/GESF (Gippsland Educational Scholarships Fund) Scholarships

Value: Two (2) scholarships of $3,000 each

Eligibility: Domestic and international full-fee paying students who are eligible to be accepted into the School's Honours program at the Gippsland campus and who have completed a degree offered through the School.

Application process: See application form. GESF Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of merit and need. Students will be asked to make a case addressing how the award of this scholarship would facilitate their ability to successfully complete the Honours degree. The case should be prepared in consultation with their proposed supervisor, who will be asked to provide a supporting statement. Possible base(s) for the case may include:
