Public Relations
What is Public Relations at Monash?
The Public relations minor consists of a sequence of four units which equips students with the basic knowledge and skills that are crucial to working in industry. Students will learn about building and maintaining relationships for the mutual benefit of organisations and their publics. At first level, you will be given a broad introduction to the field of public relations and some of its methods. You will also learn the challenging but rewarding art of public relations writing. Second level units build on what you studied at first level, delving into the all important areas of strategic communication, research and campaign planning. The minor will not only equip you with the techniques and tactics to work in a flourishing area that is becoming a major branch of organisational functioning, but will also provide you with the analytical tools to reflect on the functions and roles of public relations in modern day organisations and the society as a whole. You will be introduced to the challenging and rewarding calling of building organisation-publics relationships in an era of constant change and instantaneous global communication. It will provide you with the necessary tools to work in any position where the prime concern is establishing goodwill through building meaningful relationships between organisations and the groups on which their survival depends.
