Introduction

The honours program is a full one-year program of study or part-time over two years. Students may choose either (i) to do one semester of intensive work in-country, with the rest of the work being done at Monash, or (ii) to do the entire program at Monash.

The Indonesian Program has links with several universities in Indonesia such as Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta University, University of Padjajaran, Muhammadiyah University Malang, and Indonesian Arts Institute (Institut Seni Indonesia, Yogyakarta). Honours students may study at one of these universities, usually through the ACICIS program.

The overall program is structured around 48 points of credit. All students will be required to complete an Honours dissertation (INM4929 ) of approximately 15,000 to 18,000 words (worth 50 percent or 24 points) of the overall assessment which determine the class of Honours the student is awarded. The other 50 percent of assessment will consist of coursework at an advanced level. Below is the list of the study subject the student may choose for the coursework component:

  1. In-country subjects:
    • INM4990 - Language Study Abroad Program
    • INM4991 - Language Study Abroad Program

Students without these prerequisites wish to do Honours should consult with the Indonesian Studies Honours Coordinator (Brett Hough).

Combined honours may be taken with another discipline provided that all Honours requirements are met in both disciplines and the program is approved by the head of both schools. Students who have completed Honours may proceed to a Graduate Diploma of Arts or to a variety of MA programs (by coursework, coursework and minor thesis, or by major thesis).
