Biography

Traudi Allen is the author of five books on Australian art and artists along with numerous articles, reviews and essays.  These include a monograph on the work of John Perceval (MUP 1992); an introduction to Australian contemporary art, Cross-Currents in Contemporary Australian Art (Fine Art Publishing 2002); and, most recently, Homesickness:  Nationalism in Australian Visual Culture (Macmillan 2008).  She has lectured in art history at Melbourne's RMIT and at Monash Unversity where she established a course in "Contemporary Art of the Asia Pacific".  She has contributed regular reviews to Australian Book Review and The Sunday Age, articles to Art Asia-Pacific, Artlink, Studio International and Art & Text, as well as entries to the Grove Dictionary of Art and the Encyclopedia of Melbourne.  Among her catalogue essays are "Gardenesque" for Ballarat Fine Art Gallery, "Patriarchy, Pandanus and the Postcolonial" for Lauraine Diggins Fine Art, "The Sculpture of Mona Ryder" for the Queensland Art Gallery and "A Land Called Newtopia" on the work of Sebastian Di Mauro for the Queensland University of Technology.   Please visit www.traudiallen.id.au for more information.
