Monash students win First and Third Prizes
in the Tokyo Foundation Japanese Essay Competition 2009
The Tokyo Foundation invited undergraduate students who study Japanese language or Japanese studies at universities endowed with the Nippon Foundation Fund for Japanese Language Education (NF-JLEP) to participate in the Tokyo Foundation Japanese Essay Competition 2009. This Competition has been launched to provide undergraduate students of Japanese at NF-JLEP universities (eight universities in six countries) with the opportunity to upgrade their language skills and to learn more about Japan.
Rebecca Chen who completed Japanese 12 last year and has taken Advanced Reading Skills this semester was one of the two winners who won a trip to Japan. The other winner, Olivia Tan has just completed Japanese 4.
The title of the essay was ‘The Dream I want to Realise Through Learning Japanese’. Rebecca wrote about her dream to contribute to the globalisation of the world using Japanese and Olivia wrote about her dream of becoming a writer using Japanese.
