In explaining the significance of this survey, we cannot do better than quote the words of Michael Steinhardt, in explaining his decision to donate $12 million to establish a research institute at Brandeis University in the United States:

Substantive, accurate data is even more important for the Jewish community.
Major surveys have in recent years been undertaken in Israel, England, the United States and South Africa.
This is the first national survey in the history of Jewish Australia and New Zealand.
