Information for future Journalism students: Text transcript of video

As of 2010 the Journalism program is going to be thoroughly renovated. We’ve brought the multimedia and online elements of the course down into first year. So now all students going through the first year Journalism program will be producing news in four formats: in online; print; video; and audio. So they will have those under their belt at the end of first year.

In second year they’ll be able to take those specialisations further. And then in third year they’ll be able to apply them to particular areas of journalistic interest. For example: business reporting, industrial relations, political reporting, investigative reporting, sports reporting. So there’s going to be a full range of, if you like, styles of journalism that students will be able to participate in. Now we can do that because we are the biggest undergraduate Journalism program in Australia so we have economies of scale. And there is no other Journalism program any where in Australia, and indeed very few any where in the world, that have that breadth and that depth of offering. And that’s what you would get from the Monash program.
