Do I have to be a Monash student to study Korean at Monash?

No.
1) Korean can be undertaken through single unit enrolment.

2) Enrolment in a Monash diploma of languages allows a student enrolled in an Arts degree at another University to complete an equivalent major in Korean.

I am working full time. Can I take Korean night classes?

No. There are currently no night classes offered in Korean studies.

Can I study Korean units off-campus?

No. Korean units are not offered off-campus.

Are there any short courses offered in Korean at Monash?

No. There are no short courses offered in Korean.

Are there any Korean summer courses at Monash?

No.

I already have a degree. Do I have to enroll as an undergraduate for beginner’s Korean?

Yes.

Can I begin studying Korean in Semester 2?

Beginners – No. Korean introductory 1 is only offered in Semester 1.

Students with a background in Korean – Yes, upon approval from the Korean studies coordinator. The coordinator should be contacted to undertake a placement test.

What is the difference between ATS1171 and ATS2171?

These units are basically the same.

The different codes are used to distinguish students studying at different year levels. Most undergraduates will only be able to enrol in ATS1171.

ATS2171 is reserved for students outside the faculty of Arts who need a second year code for studying Korean introductory 1.
